derails

What brings us together is (broadly) the question of the deviation of point(s) of view(s) in the digital era. For us, this is related to the device, to the production of thought and culture by digital tools and the human relation inside. Touched by the wrong, we are interested in what derails, what deviates, the chains of elusive associations, misunderstandings, over-interpretations. For the curatorial approach, we choose the chain and her possible deviations to put in light how these points of view move. To do so, each of us invited an artist who invited another one.

A special thanks goes to all the awesome artists of this pavillon Annie Abrahams, Marion Balac, Damien Beyrouthy, Vincent Ciciliato, Lucile Haute, Tomek Jarolin, Carine Klonowski, Alice Lenay, Julie Morel, Kevin Niemeskern. → View more

urban art fair

more than 200 artists selected by 42 exhibitors, a third of whom come from abroad, here is enough to display a wide range of artistic expressions in the public space. street art, between graffiti, stencils, mosaics, stickers, ephemeral displays or installations, is one of the rare forms of creation visible to all, created for all. → View more

voltaje

voltaje is an exhibition which seeks to give an insight into the way in which different artists explore, question, confront and assume the multiple relationships between art and technology.

it is also a cultural initiative, created to make this field known to a wider audience, in which colombia has been a pioneer country in latin america since the 1970s. → View more

the icon of our time

the icon of our time is a painting that no longer lies on a stretched canvas, but of the screens that we look at every day. faced with these backlit paintings, the image is no longer the receptacle of light, but light itself. monoliths produced on a large scale, seductive objects of covetousness, these technologies become the source of modular light 2.0, smoothed in high definition. supporting the images that we zap every day, these tools become – in our eyes – sources of stories to watch. → View more

exaggerated feelings

this exhibition, claims human values, it focuses on feelings, on consciousness to lead us to ask ourselves: what are the values of the machine? around the works of donatien aubert, asdrubal colmenare, kamilia kard, tomek jarolim and fabien zocco we are invited to watch other creative processes materialize. asdrubal colmenarez, presents an interactive work that questions the collaboration between humans and robots while donatien aubert engages in an aesthetic combining art and science, fabien zocco, takes us back to the beginnings of a story, now programmed and kamilia kard presents the question of beauty with a “digital venus”. as for tomek jarolim, he is overflowing with effects to initiate disturbing reflections. → View more

safe immunity

By observing the machines we can study the social future. This selection of artists is a reflection on the possibilities of Man as a species, on his interaction with the elements that surround him and on the alternatives he can create. This exhibition therefore aims to reflect on what we call tangible and intangible, but also on our perception of time, whether distant or immediate. Safe Immunity is an exhibition that brings together works with a strong awareness of the future, this selection of artists is a reflection on the possibilities of Man as a species, on his interaction with the elements that surround him and on the alternatives it can create. This exhibition therefore aims to reflect on what we call material and immaterial, but also on our perception of time, whether distant or immediate. Yes, most of the creations are in interaction with robots or with a scientific conscience. Thanks to the collaboration for the first time with the well-established OneArtyMinute magazine. → View more
tomek jarolim is a visual artist and interaction designer. his installations question both the status of the viewer and the viewable himself, through research on the digital light and the color of the pixel. his work takes the form of generative images displayed on a wide range of devices: screens, smartphones, video projections, prints, stage performances, or directly on the eyelids.
the piece invisibles 2009 – which he exhibits at the 14th biennial of young creators of europe and the mediterranean in skopje – allows him to approach a sensory work. he continues this research within the diip program of ensadlab (research laboratory of école nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs). since 2010, he has been developing research on interactive lights, such as the eyes closed 2012 and diffraction 2012, created for fabfest at la gaîté lyrique, random series 2014, afterglow 2014 at cmoda in beijing, suns 2016 at palais de tokyo, or continuum 2017 at ourcq blanc. award winner of the franco-american cultural exchange grant, he went to school at the art institute in chicago, where he focused on a sound piece ut queant laxis, choreographed by beth jucovy for the innovation in dance festival in new york.

at the same time, he is collaborating on projects such as augmented window 2011 by thierry fournier (center pompidou), discontrol party by samuel bianchini (la gaîté lyrique), browse by motion (research and innovation institute of the center pompidou) with thierry de mey. he signed the digital creation of ring saga 2011 according to wagner’s ring of the nibelung, an opera directed by antoine gindt. he followed this collaboration with wanderer postscript 2013 and giordano bruno 2015.

since 2015 he has been part of the orbe team as designer and artistic director. the collective’s projects focus on mobility, cartography, situated media and the gamification of the urban landscape.

the responsive i
generative text and sound
dedicated website — 2021
the responsive i is a project that focuses on the advertising message — both its form and its intention. using positive and benevolent slogans, brands make happiness a quest for performance, a posture and a social status. far from making people happy (and caring about it), these injunctions to better self are hammered out with a lot of positivity, inclusion and empowerment. doesn’t the slogan become an order? the message is powerful indeed, but refers to a constant sense of failure. not to be enough. Not to be healthy enough, beautiful enough, efficient enough, strong enough... with the tools of computational literature, Conviction plays with the advertising image, its codes, its messages, sowing confusion in its aesthetics. between catchphrase and warning, the responsive i explores the intent of its shady messages. by distorting the aesthetics of famous advertising slogans, warnings and prohibitions, the responsive i attempts to send the viewer back to the thin line between image and the impossible ideal with which it confronts us..
parallels
generative and interactive installation
dedicated website – 2020
parallel is an onsite work created for voltaje festival. between motion and chromatic mutation, a dialogue is created between the gaze and the image itself. conceived as an installation, the screen is an invitation to explore and challenge one’s perception through the browser. the mouse allows to change the view of the image : each pan, zoom and rotation will influence the composition, challenging the eye. hour after hour, the image evolves offering a new perspective on the digital image. it focuses on the viewer’s perception and their singular and yet so fragile ability to look at the screen.
monochromes 4
Computer generated images. Digital print on papter. 32 cm × 20 cm.
dedicated website – 2021
Monochromes is a series of urban walks. Filmed using a smartphone, these walks are processed by dedicated software, which generates colorful compositions: each image of the video walk is reduced to its average color captured by the camera. The video is no longer a visual testimony of the journey, but becomes a sensitive experience of color in its own right. Having become an algorithmic abstraction by the light on the screen, this urban memory becomes sensitive and refers to the perception of color.

blindspot
interactive installation
screen, webcam, computer and dedicated software — 2019
blindspot is an interactive installation that reacts to the flash of the camera that takes a picture of it. the installation tries to reduce the image to the absolute emptiness to which it refers. each flash posts a monochrome tile to the screen itself via a live twitter feed, that testifies to this exhaustion of the incessant images that we produce sometimes without a real intention. this live feed creates a flock of data that will testify to the interactivity of visitors. the more the audience take flash photos of the image, the more the image becomes white. this moving mosaic stands as the symbol of an image that no longer evokes anything, other than the ultimate painting and the impassable icon of our time.
fragment t
choreography/music : maxime gralet • digital images : tomek jarolim • dance : aurélien charrier, noëlle quillet et paul girard • representation at opéra de rennes within the framework of the digital tech conférence, november 20th 2018 • pictures by coline marslen and melissa mathieu
choreographic performance — 2018
fragment t is a double performance, a fight that confronts dancers to digital programming. both sides of the creation have to be coordinated in order to animate the ballet : the steps of the dancers trigger the correlative acceleration of the program. the creation is biomorphic, evolving according to an ethical confrontation.

135 pages, color
digital book — 2018
the image of our time is the one that is no longer painted on stretched canvases, but on electronic screens that we look at every day. facing with these retro/self-lit pictures, the image is not the receptacle of light, but it is light itself. the flat screen of the living room is a rectangular source of light as intriguing as it is cold. large scale productions, objects of covetousness, these state-of-the-art technologies become the source of a modulable 2.0 light, in high definition and anti-aliased. supporting images that we swipe every day, these tools become – for our eyes – the source of stories to watch. but what if for once, we did not seek to display but to enlighten the viewer?
turing shroud
video projection, phosphorfoil screen, computer and dedicated software creation for the exhibition « le suaire de turing » within the framework of siana festival
digital installation — 2017
the should of turing is revealed in a dark room with walls covered with woodwork. at the end of the room, on a surface of three meters high, a luminescent portrait composed of flickering white and green pixels is glittering. the figure – the icon? – which appears in this pale phosphorescence is the mathematician alan turing whose scientific and cultural heritage has upset the imaginaries of the twentieth century. a man who, despite himself, has propelled a whole field of science towards new mystics and opened the way to strange techno-scientist and functionalist religions.

a prophet without knowing it, he bequeathed an involuntary testament whose apocryphal residues surround us with their shrouds of big data and artificial intelligences to the demiurgic perspective.
monoschromes 3
computer generated laser prints (13 cm × 10 cm) creation for the exhibition « void draw() »
series of postcards — 2017
monochromes is a series of video-walks in the city. they are not offered to visitors as visual testimonials of the route but as sequences of 24 monochromes per second, where each image is reduced to its average chromatic value : everyone can project their own story, or simply experience the effects of colorful lights that come to tap the retina. from these journeys are resulting mosaics : strange and abstract, they are the memories of landscapes or voyages which narrative cannot render the emotion experienced by colors.
continuum
video projection, computer and dedicated software creation for the exhibition « void draw() »
generative and contemplative installation — 2017
continuum is a specific work for the exhibition « void draw() ». this digital projection attempts to enter inside the additive color system. between motion, chromatic mutation, transformation and destruction, a dialogue is created between the gaze and the image in perpetual evolution. a nod to the work of the same name by bridget riley – her greatest painting, immediately destroyed because judged too literal – continuum is also a tribute to op art, which since the 1960s attempts to make the eye the engine of artistic perception by exploring the singular (and so fragile) ability to look at what is, but also what is only impression.
xml-roybiv
digital prints in diasec sticked on dibond (100cm x 10cm x 100cm)
diptych — 2017
roybiv+xml is a diptych made of spectral data and of every star visible from earth with the naked eye. considered as real “directories” of stellar data, these images contain the vastness and variety of stars on a defined format. coated on paper, the information is reduced by their media. the result is unexpected forms – gray and illegible monochrome, absurd listings, infinite spectra – on which we never try to read the information, in favor of a contemplative experience, like the experience in front of the stars themselves.
giorgano bruno
libretto by stefano busellato (ordered by t&m-paris, casa da musica, financed by the ernst von siemens music foundation, with the support of réseau varèse). music direction : peter rundel. assistant to music direction : léo warynski stage direction : antoine gindt. scenography : elise capdenat. light design : daniel levy. costumes : fanny brouste

suns
led wash lights, computer, dedicated software creation for the exhibition « la redite en somme, ne s'amuse pas de sa répétition singulière »
light installation – 2016
suns brings a fragment of sky inside this openwork cage. the trajectory of the stars and their ethereal rays determine a new imperceptible cycle hour after hour, according to the exhibition, from east to west, from dawn to dusk.

interactive vjing – 2016
already five years that reno and crame encourage the talent of the parisian clubbers to make the show through wacky and exciting dress-codes, performances and other battles. the theme of this edition: futuristica. the catwalks of time push us towards a utopian retro-futur, multicolored, where anyone can finally be himself: robotic, bionic, cybernetic, humanoid or extraterrestrial. the palette is infinite.

The story is unveiled by the voices of the protagonists who sometimes rise simultaneously from several points in space. a non-linear navigation takes shape. the mystery remains unresolved.
wavelength
videoprojector, phosphorescent paint, with the support of fabrique de culture siana
digital stellar installation – 2015
how to feel and apprehend the infinities which seem to be within reach? in her work on the perception of reality, the artist explores the sensation of "so far, so close" in relation to the stars of the Milky Way and gives to feel the etymology of desire (the nostalgia of the star), or the constant search for new horizons.

monochromes 2
videos, speakers, video projected, created with michel bertier.
installation – 2014
the monochromes are a series of video walks in the city. produced by its inhabitants, they are offered to visitors not as visual testimonies of the route, but as a sequence of colors. everyone can project a story or simply experience the effects of these video images that strike the retina. in resonance, michel bertier, sound designer, worked on a sound environment made from the urban universe.
afterglow
ink of rhodoid paper, phosphorescent paint
ephemeral light installation – 2013
afterglow is an interactive light installation that allows you to experience the passage of heat from incandescence to the strangeness of phosphorescence. invited to enter a room as saturated with light as the heat thus generated, the viewer invited to contemplate the phosphorescent writing on the wall he faces: the list of stars visible from the earth to the naked eye - a list which imprints its retina gradually, like the stars which it distinguishes always more while looking at the starry sky at night.
babel image library 1
paper, ink
drawings – 2012
the babel image library is an installation inspired by the text by jorge luis borges of the (almost) same name, the babel library. The author gives us to imagine a library made up of a multitude of hexagonal rooms arranged endlessly, connected by corridors, in which an incalculable number of books are arranged. the whole of these books represents an incredible construction which would contain all the truths, since all that is written would be there. it is a dizzying vision of an infinitely complex that is offered to us.
random series 2
video projections, computers, screens, dedicated software realized within the framework of the atelier hypermedia, with fumika sato
generative installation – 2013
Random Series is a reinstallation of my main installations since 2005, randomly: initially intended for other types of surfaces (flat screens, mobile screens, computers), all the parts are housed in the same sign: a program that video them -projects without predefined order, without preference.
heaven on earth
videprojection, dedicated software, lights, perfume and senses by emmanuel martini. with the artistic collaboration of the dreck team, directed by charles berling. within the framework of theme # 10 of the liberty theater, toulon.
digital and sensory scenography – 2013
paradise is in the sky, the visitor has his head in the clouds, between the azure blue of the day and the deep black of the night. a stroll through a paradise of the senses with this celestial installation that relies on images, lights, smells, tastes and sounds, then a descent into hell before discovering the dreck show.
the hallucinated night
ensemble multilatérale, direction : kanako abe. mix : sebastian rivas. sound engineer : maxime le saux. light design : tomek jarolim.
radiophonic opera – 2012
composite work, as the illuminations of rimbaud were written, the hallucinated night of rivas is composed of different pages - electroacoustic, mixed, instrumental, vocal… - arranged, mixed and then unified in a continuous frame.
overexposure
video projections, computers, dedicated softwares
generative installations – 2013
as part of the 2013 tln festival, tomek jarolim is invited to infiltrate the work of gabriele basilico at the hôtel des arts. if the pixels can cling to his photographs through architecture or the use of black and white, it is above all through light that the encounter is made: sometimes revealing, sometimes obstacle, video projection dresses or strips the bewitching, dizzying and sometimes chaotic architectures that Gabriele Basilico has been able to capture from her darkroom. exquisite corpses carpeted on the floor, photographic patchworks or hypnotic projections, the work of tomek jarolim interferes between the walls of the Hôtel des Arts to reveal its architectural flesh.
60 strobes
strobes, wires, power bricks. new media artist residency, in partnership with the hubei institute of fine arts, croisement 2013 festival, k11 art village, wuhan, china
light installation – 2013
after a residency at the hubei institute of fine arts and the k11 art village of wuhan, 60 strobes is the result of three weeks of immersion in wuhan. the mobile screens in every hand, the light boards and screens in the streets, and the many led lights on the buildings respond to the strange darkness of the “non-commercial” places. this installation is an attempt to shout out to the viewer, exposing him to the dazzling of 60 led strobes – 60 light sources that turn on and off but never let the eye really see something.
wuhan
laster prints on rhodoid, poster displays, neons. realized with the hubei institute of fine arts, within the framework of croisement festival, k11 art village, wuhan
light installation – 2013
as a response to 60 strobes, this installation allows to see the colors in the wuhanese sky, as it would appear if there was not so much light to hide the shades od the stars. presented as a triptych of light boards, the installation reveals the list of the stars that appear in the sky of wuhan, their shifting hour by hour, and the spectral types of the stars involved. reactivated on three panels wuhan, at night – as a offset lithography – seize a more concentrated light that helps to distinguish a sky where they is nothing to see anymore, but just to imagine.
colorbirds
video projection, computer, paper, dedicated software. realized within the framework of tigres de papier, théâtre de l’agora – scène nationale, with fumika sato
digital, light and volatile installation – 2013
did the digital technology really chase the paper away from our culture ? are the impressive 3d images and the plethora of special effects that accompany our screenfull everyday life so powerful that they replaced drawing or sculpture ? and if these images were only « tigers of paper » whose thunderous roar seek to erase their weakness : they need screens to exist ?
the color fallen from the sky
video projection, computer, kinect, dedicated software. with the programming help of guillaume stagnaro. residency of ums pythéas/observatoire de haute-provence/cnrs. in partnership with école supérieure d’art d’aix-en-provence.
interactive installation – 2012
light years away from our eyes, the stars are just untouchable, abstract and colorless points. brought back on a screen, these stars become vibrating pixels with perceptible colors, which come to us as our curiosity lead us to them. like a spectral reflection, an astral mirror, the color fallen from the sky is a way to perceive the richness of stellar colors by projecting directly on them. literally considered as a manner to get closer to the stars, the installation invites to the contemplation of astronomical data in its purest state. urged to approach the screen, the viewer allows the system to switch between a realistic representation of the stars and his own reflection recomposed by the pixels of the starry sky. entirely created from the actual data of the visible stars from the earth, this project contains a large amount of data that is generally untouchable.
spectra
video projection, computer, dedicated software realized within the framework of residency of ums pythéas/observatoire de haute-provence/cnrs, in partnership with école supérieure d’art d’aix-en-provence
interactive installation – 2012
spectra is color strobe : at each new frame, the computer randomly sends spectral type. the result of this digital flicker-film is a strange jerky light, yet based on the actual color of stars : each visible image is a spectrograph, that is to say the spectrum of visible light for a given type of star . here, these spectrographs are distributed randomly to give the viewer the opportunity to experience the visible colors in the stars.
the eyes closed
led light, infra red camera, dedicate softwares. light advisor : annie leuridan. technique and light programming : cyrille henry. within the framework of diip/ensadlab research programme.
interactive light installation – 2005
imagined as a factory of mental images, the eyes closed is a face to face with light, that explores our perceptual abilities and our imagination. the interactivity intends to exceed the simple interaction with a machine. when he closes his eyes, the viewer triggers a colorful light sequence that makes him feel rather than actually seeing a picture. his eyelids are the screen for a frameless and dimensionless image.
zenith
dedicated software realized within the framework of a residency at ums pythéas/observatoire de haute-provence/cnrs, in partnership with école supérieure d’art d’aix-en-provence
ipad app – 2012
zenith is a soundwalk to be played at night. put your headphones and let the stars above your head generate the sound while you walk. during the day, when the stars are invisible, just touch the screen to manually browse in the sky and listen to the sound they create. as the stars become harder and harder to see in a sky that is always more polluted with city light, zenith is a way to remember then, with the ears.
3615 au revoir
screen, computer, webcam, dedicated software realized within the framework of of futur en seine 2012
interactive installation – 2012
3615 au revoir is an interactive installation using today’s tools of image processing and its display, reduced to the capacities of the minitel* (speed, color, etc..). it simply allows the viewer to see his own reflection in the image, after processing by the computer. accustomed to interacting in the moment, the visitor is facing a device where the concept of real time is radically different, forcing him to interact differently, taking his time.
diffraction
video projection, lights, computer, screen, created on site with annie leuridan
light installation – 2012
diffraction is a light installation especially created for fabfest. diffraction set a dreamy and organic atmosphere on the places occupied by the festival, overstepping the usual boundaries of the light scenography. this work express the omnipresence of the screens and light systems that are all around us. by turning the light into matter, the installation underline a reality that we don’t often perceive, but that surround and influence us.
random series 1
video projections, computers, dedicated softwares
generative installation – 2011
random(2005,2011) is a reinstallation of my main installations since 2005, in a random way : initially for other types of surfaces (flat screens, mobile screens, computers), they are all parts united in the same way : a program that projects them with no predefined order, with no preference. every day, randomly, another part is installed. this new way of presenting old pieces (invisibles, google colors, spaces of silence, lines(), etc.) allows to put the audience in a new configuration : the visitor becomes the mediator between the image source and the screen.
ring saga
richard wagner’s the ring of the nibelung. rheingold, the valkyrie, siegfried, twilight of the gods. version by jonathan dove and graham vick, 1990. music direction : peter rundel. stage direction : antoine gindt.
opera – 2011
in 1990, playwright graham vick – founder of the city of birmingham touring opera – and composer jonathan dove, perform an adaptation of the famous richard wagner’s ring of the nibelung. while maintaining the exceptional size of the structure, two key decisions direct their version: the reduction of the duration to ten hours (approximately one-third less than the original) and the orchestration for eighteen musicians (small orchestra that wagner employed for his siegfried idyll 1870).
monochromes 1
computer, screen, dedicated software realized within the framework of augmented window by thierry fournier at centre pompidou, paris
video series – 2011
monochromes are video-walks in the district of les halles in paris, presented in augmented window, a device by thierry fournier. constantly reduced to the average color of each image, these videos are a series of solid colors. they are offered to the visitors, not as visual records, but as a footprint, a sequence of tones. only the sound can remind to the abstract reality of those wandering images. the eye discover flicker-films between the bright colors of the bystanders and the posters in the streets, and the darker shades of the buildings.
discontrol party
video projection, computer, screen, microphone, dedicated software. project developed as part of the research project large group interaction at ensadlab/drii, école nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs
interactive party device, by samuel bianchini – 2011
discontrol party is a dispositif which brings together two worlds: that of state-of-the-art surveillance techniques and that of partying. the dancefloor/live music venue/performance space will appear in the dual spotlight of a partying event and a data-driven control and surveillance system (computer vision, rfid, recording by smartphones, etc.) the main space of the gaîté lyrique becomes for the space of one evening a night-club set up as a control room: far from light effects or other vjing, the participants, while partying, are confronted by multiple visualizations of the it system which observes them and seeks to analyze their behavior.
lux
dedicated code
smartphone app – 2010
lux is a smartphone app with the only purpose of moving the usual use and perception of the image on a smartphone. no screen to touch, image to enlarge, to map to turn, or content to read. as its name suggests it, lux is to consider the tool as a light source. as a digital pixelful torch, the phone becomes an uncertain prism : each move breaks the light in order to overflow the screen a little more.
citymedia
communicating touch device – 2011
citymedia is a project born in 2009. it is the result of a collective effort between developers, artists and cultural operators, united by the desire of redesigning the role of the media in the city and making the most immersive and human use. it takes the form of a large interactive touch screen installed in the public space, which can be activated by several people at once, acting together or independently. its contents are information in the cultural, tourist domains, but also art or games… this project is inspired by an experiment conducted in helsinki. this is a new urban communication media, service to exchange between locals and visitors in the city.
b-w
video projection, computer, dedicated software
generative installation – 2010
b/w is an installation created in the context of an exhibition on victor vasarely in hungary. it is a digital, random and ephemeral journey inside the combinatorial possibilities between black and white. videoprojected, it is a light surface to be felt, to be disturbed on order to explore the random sequences proposed by the machine. lines, planes and points follow each other to dive into the image and multiply even more the black and white combinations of the program.
ersatz
color, 3 min, with charlotte and josé béreaud within the framework of 1er concours du film hors norme de la géode. jury directed by jean-pierre jeunet
imax® film (70mm) — 2010
in a world where the gloom becomes daily, ersatz is an experience offering a color cure in a cabin where the body is the interface and the screen of a healing light. broadcast at la géode for t1er concours du film hors norme, the public is both spectator of the character experience and receptacle of the light of the film through the powerful xenon projector of the imax® device.
white-pages
dedicated code
internet browser plugin – 2008
this project is the completion of a very simple idea : whitening web pages to only remain the unclearable. in this place where the information is mixed with a lot of advertisement, spams, pop-ups and other parasites, white pages is a plugin that bleaches the html tags to reveal the foundations of the page, a strange meaningless form, a transformed semi-code/semi-picture like a hybrid structure. white pages abstracts the web page composition. without reading and meaning, the user discards information, to enjoy a space to contemplate.
cmyk
color laser prints, 280 pages
computer generated book – 2009
scmyk is a book created like an offset screen to challenge the viewer with an intangible representation. in a flip-book of cyan, magenta and yellow pages – the theoretical components of black – are reconstituted as the viewer turns the pages. for once, no pixel to see, but the primary colors flattened on paper, just waiting to be mixed. this is a book no to be read but to be looped, as the program with which it was made. cmyk is a sensory breath on sheets, to head out of the computer and of the screen, to say that the colors are felt between two absolutes : the digital white and the offset black. through the theoretical limits of color, cmyk intends to exceed the limits for a journey in virtual unquantifiable values and feelings of our limited eyes. published on its very concrete 280 pages, cmyk ensures the existence of colors as the perpetual source of digital images when his alter ego is standing by.
the last screen
vcomputer, screen, dedicated software
generative installation – 2009
the last screens is a series of generative installation in which google image defines the palette of colors : we search the name of a color to display the resulting images, reduced to a pixel. the image becomes a patchwork of pixels, a colorful mosaic in the making, as a long sequence of medium colors, with a keyword in common of a colorblind search engine. the pixels follow slowly, wrapping up again and again. the values are added until a final saturation of the mosaic : too much information, images, overlays.
invisibles
computers, screens, dedicated softwares
generative installation – 2009
black and white are two extreme light values. between the two every color is played. the relationship to the viewer opens the way to the possible perceptions. the audience sees rhythms and pulsations between the broken pixels. by exploding the white saturation of pixels can be seen the richness of the sensation, through a trip in the primary components of the absolute. the illusions fuse. the colors blend. the eyes blur. the result of this vagueness is the challenge of the project itself : seeing, without any imposed image, what can happen between black and white, between the light and the retina, between the infinity of our eyes and the finiteness of the pixels. invisibles is a questioning of the image and its saturation : the color and the pixel, in their purest forms, let the eyes to an image without stories, in favor of something to be felt.
ut queant laxis
digital composition
sound installation – 2008
ut queant laxis is the first verse by john the baptist, a liturgical song written in the 10th century by the monk gui arezzo. this hymn is passed on to posterity because each of his verse starts on one of the notes of the scale, the first syllable of each verse has given its name to the note. in this project, a, b, c , d, e, f, and g are cleared to become simple radio curves : taking them from a strange taxonomy ut queant laxis is the ground zero of a trip in seven unnamed tracks. the stops are all spatialized sound inviting to stories to be, heared, muted, like an invitation to the perception. each track changes as the listener / player moves in the space of diffusion.
